So who am I? Well, I'm a Golden Era enthusiast who lives for old-fashioned silver-screen glamour. Well, I say glamour, but actually I tend to look like a WWII factory girl most days. But to everyone else, I do appear dressed up (or so they tell me).
Born and raised in the Home Counties, I’d love to say I was always such an elegant creature, but sadly the reality is somewhat different. I’ve always been, shall we say, a little ‘alternative’, with my style usually centred around the music I listened to. And I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal! But I spent my late teens and early twenties gradually going further back in time as I learned more about, and fell in love with the fashions, styles and music of the Golden Era. I do feel a strong affinity with the time, and I truly think I've now found my defining 'look'.
I’ve always loved old films and musicals, and I looked up to my granny Joan, who was stylish and glamorous her whole life. A hairdresser before WWII, she was crowned Miss Salisbury in 1941. I like to think she is looking down at me, and is tickled pink that I am keeping the old styles alive! I wear a vintage look every day, top to toe. The bulk of my wardrobe is made up of early-to-mid Forties fashions, but I love all the styles of the late 1930s to the early 1950s, and I like to mix it up. I try to keep to more old-fashioned principles too, especially where manners and behaviour are concerned, despite being thoroughly modern in other ways.
My idol and inspiration is Virginia O'Brien, a very underrated comedy acress and singer of the early 40s. She was wonderful, absolutely hilarious and so beautiful.
I currently live in small-town Surrey with my two cats, Inigo and Fezzik, and in what little spare time I have, I enjoy cooking and baking, gardening, swing dancing and reading really nerdy books and comics. I hope you enjoy your visit to my site.
